How to resize an image

  1. Select or drop one or more images — JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, GIF or BMP.
  2. Type the new width and height (in pixels, cm, mm or inches), a percentage, a longest side or pick a preset. If the shape changes, choose to crop, fit with a background, or stretch.
  3. Click Resize and download the images — several come as a ZIP.

About Image Resizer

Change the size of any picture exactly the way you need. Type a width and height in pixels, centimetres, millimetres or inches (with the DPI for printing), scale by a percentage, set the longest side, or pick a preset such as Full HD or A4.

When the new size has a different shape, crop to fill — smart crop keeps the subject in view — fit the picture inside with a white, coloured, blurred or transparent background, or stretch it. Pictures stay sharp, can be saved as JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF with a maximum file size, and everything happens in your browser.

Good for

  • Meeting the size rules of forms, websites and marketplaces
  • Preparing photos for printing at a given size in cm or inches
  • Making images smaller for email and faster web pages

Tip: Keep the chain on to avoid stretching; use “Crop to fill” when you need an exact width and height.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image without distorting it?

Keep the chain button on — the height follows the width so the proportions stay the same. If you need an exact width and height of a different shape, choose “Crop to fill” or “Fit inside” instead of stretching.

Can I resize in centimetres or inches?

Yes. Choose cm, mm or inches and the DPI (300 for printing) — the pixel size is worked out for you and the DPI is saved in the file.

What does smart crop do?

When the picture must be cropped to a new shape, smart crop keeps the part with the most detail — usually the subject — in view. You can also pick an anchor such as top or centre.

Will resizing reduce quality?

Shrinking keeps pictures sharp (a light sharpening is applied). Enlarging can’t add detail, so very big enlargements look soft — tick “Don’t make small pictures bigger” to avoid that.

Can I resize many images at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like; with the chain on, each keeps its own proportions at the new width.

Can I also limit the file size?

Yes. Under “More options”, set a maximum file size in KB and the quality is adjusted to fit.

Does resizing happen on my device?

Yes. Your browser resizes the images itself, so they never leave your device.
