About Visa Photo Size

Every country has its own visa photo rules — 2 × 2 inches for the US, 35 × 45 mm for Schengen and the UK, 33 × 48 mm for China, 43 × 55 mm for the UAE. Choose the country and the tool frames your photo with the head sized and positioned to that country’s rules.

The background is replaced with white or light grey, the digital photo saved at the pixel and KB size the online form asks for, and a print sheet made for paper applications. Everything runs in your browser.

Good for

  • US, Schengen, UK, Canadian and Australian visa applications
  • China, UAE, Saudi and Indian visas
  • Online visa portals with pixel and KB limits

Tip: Check whether your application is online or on paper — online forms need the digital file, embassies the printed photos.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a visa photo?

It depends on the country: 2 × 2 in for the US and India, 35 × 45 mm for Schengen, the UK, Canada and Australia, 33 × 48 mm for China, 43 × 55 mm for the UAE and 4 × 6 cm for Saudi Arabia. Pick the country and the right size is used.

What about the online visa photo?

Many applications are online: the photo is saved at the pixel size and file size the form asks for, such as 600 × 600 px under 240 KB for the US DS-160.

How is my face positioned?

The face is found automatically and the photo is framed so your head (chin to crown) has the size the rules ask for, with the right space above it. Drag the photo or use the zoom slider to fine-tune — the guide lines show where the crown and chin should be.

Can I change the background?

Yes. The person is separated from the background in your browser, and the background is replaced with white, off-white, light grey, blue, red or any colour. Choose “Keep the photo’s own” if your wall is already plain.

Can I print it at home or at a photo shop?

Yes. Choose “Print sheet” to get a 4 × 6 in (10 × 15 cm), 5 × 7 in or A4 sheet with as many copies as fit and thin cut lines — print it at actual size.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Face detection, background replacement and everything else run in your browser — your photo never leaves your device.
