How to Resize an Image to Exact Pixels or a Percentage
Websites, social networks and application forms each want images at particular sizes. Resizing gets the dimensions right and usually cuts the file size too.
Resizing changes the pixel dimensions of a picture — for a website, a profile photo, a form or printing.
Step by step
- Open Image Resizer and choose a mode: fit within bounds, exact size, or percentage.
- Enter the dimensions or percentage.
- Open one or more images — each is resized instantly — then download one or all.
Choosing the right mode
- Fit within — keeps the shape of the photo; best for most uses.
- Exact size — for forms that demand precise pixels. It can stretch the image if the shape differs, so crop to the right shape first with Image Cropper.
- Percentage — quick way to halve a batch of large camera photos.
Resizing without distortion
Keep the chain button on, and the height follows the width so the proportions stay the same. If you need an exact width and height of a different shape, choose “Crop to fill” or “Fit inside” instead of stretching. Smart crop keeps the part with the most detail — usually the subject — in view.
Sizes in centimetres or inches
For printing, choose cm, mm or inches and the DPI — 300 for print. The pixel size is worked out for you and the DPI is saved in the file.
Frequently asked questions
Does resizing reduce quality?
Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Making it much larger than the original can look soft — use Image Upscaler for that.
Will making an image larger make it sharper?
No — enlarging spreads the same pixels over more space. For a real increase in detail, use the AI Image Upscaler.
