About 2 × 2 Inch Photo
US passports and visas need a 2 × 2 inch photo with the head between 1 and 1 3/8 inches tall on a white background. The tool finds your face, sizes and centres it to those rules and replaces the background.
Download a 600 × 600 pixel JPG under 240 KB for the DS-160 and other online forms, and a 4 × 6 in print sheet with two photos side by side — the standard size at photo shops and pharmacies.
Good for
- US passport applications and renewals
- US visa (DS-160) and Green Card lottery photos
- Indian e-Visa and other square photos
Tip: Print the 4 × 6 sheet at actual size and cut along the lines — you get two US passport photos.
Frequently asked questions
What are the 2 × 2 photo rules?
For US passports and visas the photo is 2 × 2 inches, the head 1 to 1 3/8 inches (25–35 mm) from chin to crown, on a plain white or off-white background, taken within the last 6 months.
What about the digital DS-160 photo?
Choose “US visa (DS-160)”: the photo is saved at 600 × 600 pixels as a JPG of 240 KB or less, as the online form requires.
How is my face positioned?
The face is found automatically and the photo is framed so your head (chin to crown) has the size the rules ask for, with the right space above it. Drag the photo or use the zoom slider to fine-tune — the guide lines show where the crown and chin should be.
Can I change the background?
Yes. The person is separated from the background in your browser, and the background is replaced with white, off-white, light grey, blue, red or any colour. Choose “Keep the photo’s own” if your wall is already plain.
Can I print it at home or at a photo shop?
Yes. Choose “Print sheet” to get a 4 × 6 in (10 × 15 cm), 5 × 7 in or A4 sheet with as many copies as fit and thin cut lines — print it at actual size.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Face detection, background replacement and everything else run in your browser — your photo never leaves your device.
