About Markdown to Word

Write in Markdown, hand in a Word document. Headings, emphasis, inline code, links, nested numbered, bulleted and task lists, quotes, code blocks, tables with alignment, pictures and footnotes are turned into real Word styles, lists, tables and footnotes — not pasted HTML — so the document is easy to edit and restyle in Word.

Paste Markdown or add .md files with their pictures, edit with a live Word preview, and choose the page size, margins, font, size and heading colour. Use the first heading as a title, add a table of contents, and start chapters on new pages. Front matter sets the title and author. Nothing is uploaded.

Good for

  • Turning README files and docs into Word documents
  • Writing reports and assignments in Markdown, submitting them as .docx
  • Converting notes from Obsidian, Notion or GitHub for colleagues who use Word

Tip: Tick “Add a table of contents” — Word fills it in from your # headings when you open the file.

Frequently asked questions

Is the result a real Word document?

Yes — a proper .docx made with Word’s own styles: Heading 1–6, Title, Quote, List Paragraph and Code, real numbered and bulleted lists, real tables and real footnotes. You can change the look with Word’s Design tab and build a table of contents from the headings.

What Markdown is supported?

GitHub-flavoured Markdown: headings, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, links, nested numbered, bulleted and task lists, quotes, fenced and indented code blocks, tables with column alignment, footnotes, pictures, horizontal rules, ==highlight== and simple HTML such as sup, sub, u, mark, br and img.

How do I include pictures?

Add the picture files together with the .md file — ![alt](images/photo.png) is matched by file name. Pictures given as data URLs, and web pictures that allow it, are included too. SVG and WebP are converted to PNG so Word shows them.

Do links to headings work?

Yes. Links like [see Setup](#setup) become links to that heading inside the Word document, and web links stay clickable.

Can I add a page break?

Yes. Put \pagebreak, \newpage or an HTML comment pagebreak on its own line, or tick “Start each # heading on a new page”.

Is YAML front matter used?

Yes. A title, author and lang at the top of the file become the document’s properties, and the front matter itself is not printed.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser — your text never leaves your device.
