How to convert XML to Excel

  1. Select or drop an XML file — or click Or paste XML. The repeating records (like product or item elements) are found and shown as sheets.
  2. If the rows aren’t what you expected, choose the element the rows should come from. Choose whether to include attributes and to turn numbers and dates into Excel values.
  3. Click Convert to Excel to download the .xlsx (or .csv / .ods).

About XML to Excel

Open XML data in a spreadsheet. The element that repeats — every product, order, item or entry — becomes a row, and its attributes and child elements become columns, with nested elements named like address.city.

Several kinds of records in one file become several sheets, or you can choose the element the rows come from. Numbers and ISO dates become real Excel values, feeds, sitemaps and GPS files work too, and XML can be pasted directly. Nothing is uploaded.

Good for

  • Reviewing product feeds and data exports in Excel
  • Turning RSS feeds or sitemaps into lists
  • Sharing XML data with people who use spreadsheets

Tip: If a feed puts everything in one row, choose the repeating element under “Rows come from”.

Frequently asked questions

How does it decide what the rows are?

It looks for the element that repeats — such as product in a product feed or item in an RSS feed — and makes one row per element. Different kinds of records become different sheets, and you can pick the element yourself.

What happens to nested elements and attributes?

They become columns. A nested element like address with city inside becomes a column address.city, and attributes appear as @name columns. Elements that repeat inside a record are joined in one cell.

Are numbers and dates converted?

Yes. Numbers and ISO dates become real Excel values; codes with leading zeros stay text. Untick the option to keep everything as text.

Which XML files work?

Any well-formed XML: data exports, product feeds, RSS and Atom feeds, sitemaps, KML and GPX. If the file isn’t well-formed, you’re told where the problem is.

Can I paste XML?

Yes. Click Or paste XML, paste it and convert.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser — your data never leaves your device.
