Excel to CSV

Convert Excel and OpenDocument sheets to CSV — every sheet or the ones you pick, with your separator, encoding and date format.

or drag & drop .xlsx, .xls or .ods workbooks here

How to convert Excel to CSV

  1. Select or drop one or more Excel workbooks (.xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, .xlsb or .ods). Click a file to preview it and use the tabs to look through its sheets.
  2. Choose which sheets to export, the separator (comma, or semicolon for European Excel), whether values appear as shown in Excel or as plain values, and the date format.
  3. Click Convert to CSV. One sheet downloads as a CSV; several come as a list of files you can download together as a ZIP.

About Excel to CSV

Convert Excel workbooks to CSV files in your browser. Export every sheet as its own CSV, just the first, or exactly the sheets you tick, from .xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, .xlsb and OpenDocument .ods files — several workbooks at once.

Choose a comma, semicolon, tab or pipe as the separator, save as UTF-8 with the byte order mark Excel needs for accents, keep values as shown in Excel or as plain numbers, and pick the date format. Empty and hidden rows can be left out. Nothing is uploaded.

Good for

  • Importing spreadsheet data into databases, CRMs and online shops
  • Sharing tables with tools that only read CSV
  • Exporting every sheet of a workbook in one go

Tip: If your CSV opens in Excel with everything in one column, convert again with the semicolon separator.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert every sheet of a workbook?

Yes. Choose Every sheet to get one CSV per sheet, First sheet only, or Choose sheets to tick exactly the ones you need. Several workbooks can be converted at once.

Why do accents look wrong when Excel opens my CSV?

Excel only reads a CSV as UTF-8 when the file starts with a byte order mark (BOM). Keep “UTF-8 with BOM” ticked and accents, ₹, € and other alphabets show correctly.

Comma or semicolon?

Use a comma for most programs and for English versions of Excel. In countries that write decimals with a comma (much of Europe), Excel expects a semicolon — choose it there.

What happens to formulas?

CSV holds values, not formulas, so each formula is saved as its calculated result.

Are numbers and dates kept the way I see them?

With “As shown in Excel” values keep their formatting, like 1,250.00 or 12%. Choose “Plain values” for raw numbers. Dates use the format you pick, such as 2024-03-31 or 31/03/2024.

Can I leave out hidden rows or empty rows?

Yes. Empty rows are left out by default, and under More options you can also leave out hidden rows and columns and trim spaces.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser — your workbooks never leave your device.
