How to convert Excel to XML
- Select or drop an Excel, ODS or CSV file. The first row gives the names of the XML elements.
- Name the root element and the element for each row, and choose child elements or attributes, one sheet or all of them. The preview shows the XML as you go.
- Click Convert to XML to download the .xml file.
About Excel to XML
Turn spreadsheet rows into XML for imports, feeds and integrations. Each row becomes an element with the name you choose, and each column becomes a child element or an attribute named after its header — cleaned up into a valid XML name.
Special characters are escaped, dates are written as ISO dates, empty cells can be skipped or written, and every sheet can go into its own section. A live preview shows the XML before you download it, and nothing is uploaded.
Good for
- Product and price feeds for shops and marketplaces
- Importing spreadsheet data into systems that take XML
- Creating test data and configuration files
Tip: Use a singular row name like product or employee — it makes the XML easier to read.
Frequently asked questions
What does the XML look like?
Each row becomes an element — named row by default, or any name you choose — inside a root element, and each column becomes a child element (such as name containing Asha) or an attribute (name="Asha"), named after the header row.
What if my headers have spaces or symbols?
They are turned into valid XML names: First Name becomes First_Name, and names that start with a number get an underscore in front.
Are special characters handled?
Yes. Ampersands, angle brackets and quotes are escaped so the XML is always well-formed, and the file is saved as UTF-8.
Can I convert every sheet?
Yes. Each sheet becomes its own sheet section, with the sheet name as an attribute, inside the root element.
How are dates written?
As ISO dates, like 2024-03-31 or 2024-03-31T14:30:00, which every XML tool understands.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser — your data never leaves your device.
