How to calculate percentage change
- Enter the old and new value — or switch to “Series of values” and paste a list.
- See the % change, difference and multiplier, or the change at every step.
- Read the overall change, biggest rise and fall and average growth rate (CAGR).
About Percentage Change Calculator
Measure how much something went up or down — prices, salaries, sales, traffic, marks or weight. Enter the old and new value to get the percentage change, the difference, the multiplier and the symmetric percentage difference.
Work backwards to the value before a known change, or paste a whole series of values to see the change at every step, the overall change, the biggest rise and fall and the average growth rate per period on a chart.
Good for
- Price and salary changes
- Sales, revenue and traffic growth over years
- Stock and investment performance
Tip: Label each value (2024: 1560) in the series to see the labels on the chart.
Frequently asked questions
How is percentage change calculated?
(new − old) ÷ |old| × 100. From 1,250 to 1,500: 250 ÷ 1,250 × 100 = +20%.
Why do +20% and −20% not cancel out?
Because the second change is applied to a different base: 100 → 120 (+20%) → 96 (−20%).
How do I find the value before a change?
Divide by (1 + change ÷ 100). If something costs 1,500 after a 20% rise, it cost 1,500 ÷ 1.2 = 1,250 before.
What is CAGR?
The compound annual (or per-period) growth rate — the steady rate that turns the first value into the last over the given number of steps.
