Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?

Divide the percentage by 100 and multiply: 15% of 240 = 0.15 × 240 = 36.

How do I find what percent one number is of another?

Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100: 36 ÷ 240 × 100 = 15%.

What is the difference between % change and % difference?

% change compares a new value with an old one (direction matters). % difference compares two values symmetrically, dividing by their average.

What are percentage points?

The simple difference between two percentages: from 4% to 5% is +1 percentage point, which is a 25% relative increase.
