About BMI Calculator
Find your body mass index and what it means. Enter your height and weight in metric or US units and see your BMI on a colour scale with its category, the healthy weight range for your height and how much you would need to lose or gain to reach it.
Asian cut-offs — recommended for people of Indian, Chinese, Japanese and South-East Asian origin — can be chosen instead of the WHO ones, and BMI Prime, the Ponderal index and an estimated body-fat percentage add context.
Good for
- Checking a healthy weight range
- Tracking weight-loss progress
- Health and fitness planning
Tip: Use the Asian categories if you are of South Asian origin — the healthy range ends at 22.9.
Frequently asked questions
What is a healthy BMI?
18.5 to 24.9 by WHO standards. For Asian populations, including Indians, a healthy BMI is 18.5 to 22.9 because health risks start at lower BMI.
How is BMI calculated?
Weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. 72 kg and 1.70 m: 72 ÷ 1.70² = 24.9.
Is BMI accurate?
It is a quick screening tool. It cannot tell muscle from fat, so muscular people may get a high BMI, and it is not meant for children or pregnant women.
Can I save or share a calculation?
Yes — click Share to copy a link that opens the calculator with your numbers, Print / PDF to save the results, or open History to go back to recent calculations.
Is my data stored or sent anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser. Your recent calculations are kept only in this browser (History), and a shared link contains just the numbers you entered.
