Frequently asked questions

What is the PPF interest rate?

The government sets it every quarter; it has been 7.1% for several years. Enter the current rate — interest is compounded yearly.

How much can I deposit?

Between ₹500 and ₹1,50,000 per financial year. Deposits count for Section 80C in the old tax regime.

When does PPF mature?

After 15 financial years. You can extend it in blocks of 5 years, with or without new deposits.

Is PPF interest taxed?

No — the interest and the maturity amount are tax-free (EEE).

When can I withdraw from PPF?

Partial withdrawals are allowed once a year from the 7th financial year — up to 50% of the lower of the balance at the end of the 4th year before or the previous year. The table shows the limit for each year.

Can I take a loan against PPF?

Yes, from the 3rd to the 6th year: up to 25% of the balance at the end of the second year before the loan year. The table shows it for each year.

Should I deposit monthly or yearly?

A yearly deposit before 5 April earns the most interest. Monthly deposits must be made by the 5th to earn interest for that month.

Is my data stored or sent anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser. Your recent calculations are kept only in this browser (History), and a shared link contains just the numbers you entered.
