Frequently asked questions
Which regime is better for me?
The new regime is better for most people, especially without big deductions — income up to ₹12 lakh (₹12.75 lakh for salaried people) is tax-free in FY 2025-26. The old regime can win if you claim large deductions like HRA, 80C and a home loan. The calculator compares both.
What is marginal relief?
If your taxable income is just above ₹12 lakh, the tax is capped at the amount by which your income exceeds ₹12 lakh, so earning a little more never leaves you with less. The calculator applies it automatically.
Which deductions are allowed in the new regime?
Mainly the ₹75,000 standard deduction and the employer’s NPS contribution (80CCD(2)). 80C, 80D, HRA and home loan interest apply only in the old regime.
Is capital gains tax included?
Yes. Tick “Other income” to add short-term gains on shares and equity funds (111A, 20%), long-term gains (112A, 12.5% above ₹1.25 lakh) and other long-term gains. The 87A rebate does not apply to this tax in the new regime, and the unused basic exemption is adjusted against the gains.
How is HRA exemption calculated?
Choose Calculate it and enter basic + DA, the HRA you receive and the rent you pay. The exemption is the lowest of the HRA received, rent minus 10% of basic, and 50% of basic in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata or Chennai (40% elsewhere). It applies only in the old regime.
When does the old regime pay off?
The calculator shows the break-even amount: if your Chapter VI-A deductions (80C, 80D, NPS and others) are above it, the old regime gives lower tax; below it, choose the new regime.
How much TDS will be deducted each month?
The computation statement shows the monthly TDS on salary and your take-home pay after PF, professional tax and TDS for both regimes.
Is my salary data stored or sent anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser. Your recent calculations are kept only in this browser (History), and a shared link contains just the numbers you entered.
