Frequently asked questions
How long should a title and meta description be?
Google cuts titles at about 580 pixels (roughly 55–60 characters) and descriptions at about 920 pixels (roughly 155–160 characters) on desktop. The meters measure real pixel width, so you know exactly what will be shown.
Do meta keywords still matter?
No — Google has ignored the keywords tag for years. You can add it, but it does not help rankings.
What does the robots tag do?
It tells search engines whether to index the page and follow its links. Use noindex for thank-you pages, internal search results and staging copies. max-image-preview:large lets Google show big images in Discover.
Can I check the tags of an existing page?
Yes — enter its URL under “Check an existing page” to see the title, description, canonical, robots, viewport, H1, Open Graph and structured data, with problems highlighted, and load them into the form.
Is anything sent to your server?
Only when you audit a live page: our server fetches that URL for you, because browsers can't read other websites directly. The tags you write stay in your browser.
