About Add Page Numbers PDF
Give every page of a PDF its number exactly the way you want: pick one of six positions or mirrored corners for facing pages, a ready-made format or your own text with {n} and {p}, and Arabic numbers, Roman numerals or letters.
Choose where numbering starts and which first pages to skip, style the text, add a white box behind it, or use Bates numbering across several files — and check the live preview before saving. Nothing is uploaded.
Good for
- Numbering pages of a scanned document
- Adding page numbers before printing a booklet
- Numbering exhibits for court
Tip: Use “Facing pages” for documents printed double-sided so numbers sit on the outer edge.
Frequently asked questions
Where can the numbers go?
Top or bottom, on the left, in the centre or on the right — or tick “Facing pages” to put them in the outer corners (right on odd pages, left on even pages), as in a printed book.
Which formats can I use?
1, 1 / 10, Page 1, Page 1 of 10, - 1 - or your own text with {n} for the number and {p} for the total. Numbers can be 1 2 3, i ii iii, I II III or a b c, and can start at any value.
Can I leave out the cover page?
Yes. Set “Skip first” to 1 (or more) — those pages get no number, and numbering starts on the next page with your start value.
What is Bates numbering?
A legal numbering style: a prefix and a zero-padded number, such as ABC000001, stamped on every page. With several PDFs the numbers continue from one file to the next.
Will the numbers be readable on scans?
Yes — choose the font, size and colour, and tick “White box behind the number” for scanned or coloured pages.
Does my PDF leave my computer?
No. Page numbers are added in your browser, so your files stay on your device.
