  • Typing races with friends and classmates

Tip: Use the 60-second test for a reliable result — short tests swing a lot with a single mistake.

Frequently asked questions

How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?

Words per minute counts every 5 correctly typed characters, including spaces after correct words, as one word, divided by the minutes. Raw WPM counts all characters, including mistakes.

What is a good typing speed?

Most people type 35 to 40 WPM. 50 to 60 WPM is good for office work, 70 to 90 WPM is very good, and professional typists often exceed 100 WPM. Accuracy above 95% matters as much as speed.

How can I type faster?

Learn touch typing with your fingers on the home row, keep your eyes on the screen, and practise a few short tests every day. Aim for accuracy first — speed follows.

What does consistency mean?

How even your speed was during the test. 100% means the same speed every second; lower values mean bursts and pauses.

Is my result saved?

Your personal bests and recent tests are kept in this browser only, so you can track your progress. Nothing is uploaded.

Can I practise with my own text?

Yes. Choose custom and paste any text — a work document, code or a speech. It is saved on this device so you can repeat it.

Which keys do I get wrong?

After each test the keyboard heatmap colours every key: green for clean, amber for mistakes or slow keys, red for keys you miss often. The “weak keys” mode then builds tests from words that contain the letters you miss most across all your tests.

Can I get a typing certificate?

Yes. Enter your name under the result and download a certificate image with your WPM, accuracy, raw speed, consistency and the date — handy for job applications or class.
