Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Simplified and Traditional Chinese?
Simplified Chinese is used in Mainland China, Singapore and Malaysia. Traditional Chinese, with more strokes per character, is used in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.
Why are there Taiwan and Hong Kong options?
Taiwan and Hong Kong use slightly different forms for some characters, such as 裡 and 裏. Choose the place your readers live.
What does “local phrases” do?
It also changes the words people use, not only the characters. For example, 鼠标 becomes 滑鼠, 软件 becomes 軟體 and 信息 becomes 資訊, the way people write in Taiwan.
Is the conversion accurate?
It uses OpenCC, the open-source dictionary used by Wikipedia and many apps. It handles one-to-many characters by phrase, such as 头发 to 頭髮 and 发展 to 發展.
Can I convert subtitles?
Yes. Open .srt or .vtt files; the timing lines stay the same. Add several files and download all results as a ZIP.
Can I see what was changed?
Yes. The Changed words list shows every word that was converted, such as 软件 → 軟體, with how often it appears — useful for checking a translation or localisation before you publish.
Can I add my own terms?
Yes. Under Your own phrases enter one rule per line, like 軟體=軟件, to keep brand names, product names or company terms the way you want. The rules are applied after the conversion and remembered on this device.
Can I convert a Word document?
Yes. Use Convert a Word file (.docx): the text is converted while tables, styles, images, headers and footers stay exactly as they were. The file never leaves your browser.
