How to split an Excel file
- Select or drop a workbook (.xlsx, .xls, .ods or .csv). Use the tabs to pick the sheet to split.
- Choose how to split: Each sheet as its own file, Every N rows, or By the values of a column — such as one part per customer or region. The preview marks where parts begin.
- Choose separate files or sheets of one workbook, .xlsx or .csv, and click Split workbook. Several files download together as a ZIP.
About Split Excel
Split one Excel workbook into several files. Save each sheet as its own workbook, cut a large sheet into parts of a fixed number of rows for upload limits, or make one file for every value in a column — every customer, region, salesperson or month.
The header row is repeated in every part, values, dates and number formats are kept, and the parts can be separate .xlsx or .csv files or sheets of one workbook. The preview shows where each part begins, and nothing is uploaded.
Good for
- Sending each customer or branch only their own rows
- Splitting large lists for import limits
- Turning every sheet of a workbook into its own file
Tip: Sort the sheet by the column first if you want the parts in a particular order.
Frequently asked questions
Can I save every sheet as a separate Excel file?
Yes. Choose Each sheet as its own file and every sheet becomes its own workbook, named after the sheet, with its values, formats and column widths.
Can I split a large sheet into smaller files?
Yes. Choose Every N rows and set how many rows each part gets — for example 1,000 rows per file for an upload limit. The header row is repeated at the top of every part.
Can I split by a column, like one file per customer?
Yes. Choose By the values of a column and pick the column. Every different value gets its own file — or its own sheet in one workbook — named after the value.
Is the header row kept in every part?
Yes, with “Repeat the header row in every part” ticked.
Can I get CSV files instead?
Yes. Choose CSV under Save as. You can also keep the parts as sheets of a single workbook.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Splitting happens entirely in your browser — your data never leaves your device.
