JSON to Excel

Convert JSON to Excel — nested objects flattened into columns, each list of records its own sheet, ISO dates as real dates. Paste or upload.

or drag & drop JSON or JSON Lines files here

How to convert JSON to Excel

  1. Select or drop a .json or .jsonl file — or click Or paste JSON. The lists of records in it are found and shown as sheet tabs.
  2. Choose what to do with lists inside records (their own sheet, JSON text, or extra rows) and whether ISO dates become Excel dates.
  3. Click Convert to Excel to download the .xlsx (or .csv / .ods).

About JSON to Excel

Turn JSON from an API, a database export or an app into a spreadsheet. Every list of records in the file becomes a sheet, nested objects become columns like customer.address.city, and lists of values are joined into a cell.

Lists of objects inside records — such as order items — can go to their own sheet linked to their row, numbers and true/false keep their types, and ISO dates become real Excel dates. JSON Lines and GeoJSON work too, you can paste JSON directly, and nothing is uploaded.

Good for

  • Reading API responses in Excel
  • Turning database or app exports into reports
  • Sharing JSON data with people who use spreadsheets

Tip: API responses usually wrap the records, like {"data": […]} — the records are found automatically.

Frequently asked questions

What JSON can be converted?

An array of objects ([{…}, {…}]), an object that contains one or more such arrays (like an API response with "data": […]), JSON Lines with one object per line, arrays of arrays, and GeoJSON feature collections.

How are nested objects handled?

They are flattened into columns with dotted names — {"customer": {"name": "Asha"}} becomes a column customer.name.

What about arrays inside records?

Lists of simple values are joined in one cell ("red, blue"). Lists of objects — like the items of an order — go to their own sheet with a row column pointing back to the record, or can be kept as JSON text or expanded into extra rows.

Will dates and numbers be real Excel values?

Yes. Numbers and true/false keep their type, and ISO dates such as 2024-03-31 or 2024-03-31T14:30:00Z become Excel dates you can sort and filter.

Can I paste JSON instead of uploading a file?

Yes. Click Or paste JSON, paste it and convert.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser — your data never leaves your device.
