About Sort Text Lines
Put any list in order in a second: names, words, file names, numbers or rows of data. Sort A to Z or Z to A, in natural order so that 2 comes before 10, by the numbers in each line, by length, or simply reverse or shuffle the list.
Sort CSV or tab-separated data by any column while keeping the header on top, ignore “The / A / An” at the start of titles, and remove duplicates and empty lines at the same time.
Good for
- Alphabetising names, words and references
- Ordering file names and version numbers naturally
- Sorting CSV rows by a column, or shuffling a list
Tip: Sort with “Remove duplicate lines” ticked to get a clean, unique, sorted list in one step.
Frequently asked questions
What is natural order?
Numbers inside text are sorted by value, so file2 comes before file10 — the way people expect, unlike a plain computer sort.
Can I sort CSV data by a column?
Yes — enter the column number and choose the separator (comma, tab, semicolon…); the whole line moves with it. Keep the header line on top if your data has one.
Can I shuffle lines randomly?
Yes, “Shuffle” puts the lines in random order; click “Shuffle again” for a new order.
Is the sort case-sensitive?
No by default (apple and Apple sort together). Tick “Case-sensitive” to sort capitals first.
Can I open files?
Yes — open or drop TXT, Markdown, CSV, HTML, JSON, subtitles, Word (.docx), OpenDocument (.odt), RTF and PDF files, even several at once.
Are my lines sent anywhere?
No. Sorting happens in your browser, so nothing you paste leaves your device. A draft is kept only in this browser so you don't lose it.
