About Remove Accents Diacritics
Turn text with accents into plain letters for file names, URLs, databases, usernames, code and systems that only accept ASCII. Accents and diacritics are removed while upper and lower case are kept.
Special letters are transliterated (ß → ss, æ → ae, ø → o, ł → l), smart quotes, dashes and ellipses can become plain ASCII, and anything else that is not ASCII can be deleted.
Good for
- File names, usernames and IDs without accents
- Preparing data for systems that only accept ASCII
- Searching and matching names regardless of accents
Tip: For URLs, use the Slug Generator — it removes accents and spaces in one go.
Frequently asked questions
Which letters are converted?
All accented Latin letters (é, ü, ñ, ç, å…), plus special letters such as ß → ss, æ → ae, ø → o, ł → l, đ → d and þ → th.
Can it make text pure ASCII?
Yes — also tick smart punctuation (quotes, dashes, …) and “Delete anything still not ASCII” to remove emoji and other symbols.
Is upper and lower case kept?
Yes, É becomes E and é becomes e. Tick “Make lowercase” if you also want lower case.
Can I open files?
Yes — open or drop TXT, Markdown, CSV, HTML, JSON, subtitles, Word (.docx), OpenDocument (.odt), RTF and PDF files, even several at once.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Accents are removed in your browser, so your text never leaves your device. A draft is kept only in this browser so you don't lose it.
