Frequently asked questions
What is an RF creditor reference?
An international structured reference (ISO 11649) that starts with RF and two check digits, followed by up to 21 letters or digits — usually your invoice number. Payers copy it into the transfer and your bank reports it back unchanged, so the payment can be matched automatically.
Which format should I use?
RF works in every SEPA country. Belgian businesses often use the structured communication +++123/4567/89012+++, Finnish ones the viitenumero, Norwegian ones KID and Swiss ones the QR reference on QR-bills.
Can I check a reference a customer used?
Yes — paste references and click Check references: the check digits of each one are verified.
Are my invoice numbers sent anywhere?
No. References are created and checked in your browser, so nothing you paste leaves your device.
Why use a structured reference instead of free text?
Banks pass a structured reference to you unchanged, so your accounting software can match each payment to its invoice without manual checking.
