Frequently asked questions

How do I extract subtitles from an MKV or MP4?

Open the video — the subtitle tracks are listed and the first one is loaded. Click Load on another track, then download as SRT, VTT, ASS or TXT, or save all tracks as a ZIP.

What if the video has no subtitle track?

Use AI subtitles: Whisper transcribes the speech in your browser (35+ languages, or translated to English) with word-level timing. Burned-in subtitles are part of the picture and cannot be extracted.

Why can some tracks not be extracted as text?

Blu-ray (PGS) and DVD (VobSub) subtitles are images, not text. Generate new subtitles with AI instead.

Can I fix subtitles that are out of sync?

Yes — shift all subtitles by any number of seconds, move the first one to the playhead, or convert between frame rates such as 25 and 23.976 fps.

Can I put the subtitles into the video?

Yes — burn them in (always visible, MP4) or add them as a selectable subtitle track to MKV or MP4 without re-encoding.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Tracks are read with FFmpeg and speech is transcribed with Whisper, both running in your browser. Only the AI model is downloaded (once) — your video and audio never leave your device.
