Tip: drop both PDFs at once — the first is the original.

How to compare two PDFs

  1. Select the original PDF and the changed version (or drop both at once — the first is the original).
  2. Review the changes: removed text is red in the original, added text green in the new version, and both sides scroll together. Click a change in the list — or use the arrows — to jump to it. Switch to Overlay to see differences in pictures and layout.
  3. Download the comparison report as a PDF, with both versions side by side and the changes marked, or the list of changes as text.

About Compare PDF

Compare two versions of a contract, report or draft and see exactly what changed. Every added, removed or changed word is highlighted — red in the original, green in the new version — with both documents side by side and scrolling together, and a list of all changes you can click through.

For changes that aren’t text — a new logo, a moved table, a different chart — the Overlay view lays the pages on top of each other and colours every difference. Download a comparison report PDF with both versions side by side, or the list of changes as text. Everything happens in your browser.

Good for

  • Checking what changed in a new version of a contract
  • Reviewing edits to reports, theses and manuscripts
  • Making sure a final print file matches the approved proof

Tip: Press N and P (next and previous) to step through the changes one by one.

Frequently asked questions

How does Compare PDF find the differences?

It reads the words of both PDFs and compares them — first line by line, then word by word inside the lines that differ — so it finds exactly what was added, removed or changed even when text moved to another line or page. The overlay view compares the pages pixel by pixel to show changes in pictures, drawings and layout too.

Can I see the changes side by side?

Yes. The original is on the left and the new version on the right; both scroll together. Removed text is marked red, added text green, and a thin marker shows where something was inserted or taken out on the other side.

Can I get a list of all changes?

Yes. The panel lists every change with its page and the old and new text. Click one to jump to it in both documents. You can also download the list as a text file.

Can I download a comparison report?

Yes — Download report (PDF) creates a PDF with each page of both versions side by side and the changes highlighted, ready to share or print.

Can I ignore small differences?

Upper and lower case are ignored by default, and you can also ignore punctuation, so only real wording changes are shown.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Scans have no text to compare word by word, so they are compared in the Overlay view, which shows every visual difference between the pages.

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. Both PDFs are compared entirely in your browser — they never leave your device, which matters for contracts and confidential drafts.
