or drag & drop a PDF to summarise

How to summarise a PDF

  1. Select or drop a PDF. Its text is read and summarised straight away — headers, footers and page numbers are left out.
  2. Read the key points — each one shows the page it comes from — or switch to By section and Key terms. Change the Length, choose bullet points or a paragraph, or summarise only some Pages.
  3. Copy the summary or save it as a text or Markdown file.

About PDF Summarizer

Get the gist of a long PDF in seconds. The summarizer reads the text, leaves out headers, footers and page numbers, and picks the sentences that matter most — each with the page it comes from, so you can jump straight to the source and nothing is made up.

Switch between a short or long summary, bullet points or a paragraph, see the key points of every section and the document’s key terms, or summarise only some pages. In browsers with a built-in on-device AI, it can write the summary too. Copy the result or save it as text or Markdown — and the PDF never leaves your device.

Good for

  • Getting the gist of a long report or contract
  • Previewing research papers and chapters
  • Revising from lecture notes and handouts

Tip: Summarising a chapter at a time (type its pages) gives more detailed points than summarising a whole book at once.

Frequently asked questions

How does the summarizer work?

It reads the text of the PDF, finds the headings, and ranks every sentence by how strongly it connects to the rest of the document (the TextRank method), skipping sentences that repeat each other. The best ones become the summary, in reading order, each with the page it comes from — so nothing is invented and you can always check the source.

Can it summarise each chapter or section?

Yes. Headings are recognised from their larger font, and the By section tab gives the key points of every section with its page number. Key terms lists the words and phrases the document uses most.

Does it use AI?

By default it uses a proven key-sentence method that runs instantly in your browser. If your browser has a built-in on-device AI (recent versions of Google Chrome), you can choose On-device AI to have it write the summary — it still runs on your own computer, and nothing is sent anywhere.

How long can the PDF be?

Hundreds of pages are fine. You can also summarise only some pages, for example one chapter, by typing a page range.

Why does it say my PDF has no text?

Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages, without text to read. Run the PDF through OCR PDF first to make it searchable, then summarise it here.

Which languages are supported?

The key-sentence summary works with most languages, because sentences and words are split by your browser’s language tools. Common English filler words are ignored when ranking.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is read and summarised entirely in your browser — it never leaves your device, so it is safe for confidential documents.
