Frequently asked questions

How do I unzip a file online?

Drop the ZIP on the page or click “Choose archive”. The contents appear instantly as folders and files — click a file to preview it, or use Download all, Download selected or Save to a folder.

Can it open password-protected archives?

Yes — you are asked for the password, including 7Z archives with encrypted file names and AES-256 ZIP files. The password stays in your browser.

Can I extract only some files?

Yes — tick files or whole folders and click “Download selected”. One file downloads directly; several come as a smaller ZIP.

Is there a size limit?

No upload limit, because nothing is uploaded. Browsers can usually handle archives up to about 1.5–2 GB.

Which formats can it open?

ZIP, RAR (RAR4 and RAR5), 7Z, TAR, GZ, TGZ, BZ2, XZ, ZSTD, ISO, CAB, WIM, DMG, ARJ, LZH, CPIO, RPM, DEB, JAR and APK, plus split archives (.001, .part1.rar, .z01) — 7-Zip’s full list.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser with a WebAssembly build of 7-Zip — your files never leave your device, so it is safe for private and work documents. It even works offline once the page has loaded.
