Frequently asked questions

How do I zip a folder?

Drag the folder onto the page (or click “Add a folder”) — all files inside are added with their folder structure. Then click Create archive and download the ZIP.

How do I make a password-protected ZIP?

Type a password before creating. AES-256 is secure but needs 7-Zip, WinRAR or macOS to open; tick “Compatible encryption (ZipCrypto)” if it must open with Windows’ built-in unzip (weaker).

Can I split a big ZIP for email?

Yes — choose “25 MB (email)” under Split into parts. You get archive.zip.001, .002 … which 7-Zip and WinRAR join automatically.

Which format makes the smallest file?

7Z at Ultra compression usually gives the smallest file, then TAR.XZ. ZIP is the most compatible — every computer and phone can open it.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser with a WebAssembly build of 7-Zip — your files never leave your device, so it is safe for private and work documents. It even works offline once the page has loaded.
