Frequently asked questions

How do I convert RAR to ZIP (or any format)?

Open the archive in “Open & extract”, choose the new format under Convert and click Convert — the files are repacked in your browser and downloaded.

Which formats can it open?

ZIP, RAR (RAR4 and RAR5), 7Z, TAR, GZ, TGZ, BZ2, XZ, ZSTD, ISO, CAB, WIM, DMG, ARJ, LZH, CPIO, RPM, DEB, JAR and APK, plus split archives (.001, .part1.rar, .z01) — 7-Zip’s full list.

Which formats can it create?

ZIP (with AES-256 or ZipCrypto password), 7Z (AES-256, optional encrypted names), TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.XZ, TAR.BZ2 and GZ, with optional split parts. RAR can be opened but not created — RAR is a closed format.

Can it open password-protected archives?

Yes — you are asked for the password, including 7Z archives with encrypted file names and AES-256 ZIP files. The password stays in your browser.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser with a WebAssembly build of 7-Zip — your files never leave your device, so it is safe for private and work documents. It even works offline once the page has loaded.
