About Image to Text
Stop retyping text from pictures. Add a photo of a document, a screenshot, a sign or a scanned page and the text is recognised in seconds — in English, Hindi and other Indian languages, European languages, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and more.
The recognised words are outlined on the picture so you can see what was read, doubtful words are marked, and the text can be edited and copied or saved as a text file or Word document. Read just one part of a picture by drawing a box around it. Pictures stay on your device.
Good for
- Copying text from screenshots and photos of documents
- Digitising printed notes, receipts and book pages
- Translating text from signs and menus (copy it into a translator)
Tip: Photograph documents straight on, in daylight, filling the frame — recognition is far more accurate.
Frequently asked questions
Which languages can it read?
English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian — and you can combine up to three, such as English with Hindi.
How can I get better results?
Use a sharp, straight, well-lit picture with dark text on a light background, keep “Clean up the picture first” on, and choose “One block of text” for a single paragraph or “Scattered text” for signs and labels. Words the reader isn’t sure about are outlined in orange.
Can it read handwriting?
Neat, printed-style handwriting can work, but joined-up writing is usually not recognised reliably.
Can I copy the text straight away?
Yes. The recognised text appears next to the picture — edit it if needed and click Copy.
Are my pictures uploaded?
No. The text is read in your browser. Only the language data (a few MB) is downloaded the first time you use a language; your pictures never leave your device.
Can I read only part of the picture?
Yes. Select the area you want before clicking Read text, and only that part is read — handy for one paragraph of a busy screenshot.
