Why convert a GIF to MP4?
MP4 is usually 5–20 times smaller, keeps full colour and is what Instagram, X, WhatsApp and most sites actually use for “GIFs”.
Does the MP4 loop?
MP4 files play once by default; social apps and video players with loop on repeat them. To make it longer, use Boomerang or Duplicate frames.
What about transparent GIFs?
MP4 has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white — or the background colour you choose in Effects.
Is my GIF uploaded?
No. The MP4 is made in your browser with FFmpeg (WebAssembly), so the file never leaves your device.
How much smaller is the MP4?
Usually far smaller — often a tenth of the GIF's size or less — because video codecs compress motion much better than GIF.
