Frequently asked questions

How do I make a meme GIF?

Open the GIF and click + Meme text: white Impact text with a black outline appears at the top and bottom. Type your lines and drag them where you want.

Can text appear only on some frames?

Yes. Each text has a From and To frame, so captions can change during the animation — add several texts with different frame ranges for subtitles.

Can I add text to a video?

Yes — open a video instead; it becomes a GIF with your captions, or export it as MP4.

How do I make the GIF smaller?

Use a smaller width (320–480 px is plenty for chats), a lower frame rate (10–12 fps), fewer colours (64–128) and some lossy compression — or type a size under “Fit under a file size” and the settings are found for you. Shorter clips make the biggest difference.

Is my GIF uploaded?

No. The text is added and the GIF encoded in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
