Frequently asked questions

How do I make a GIF from pictures?

Choose several images (or drop them), drag the frames into order on the timeline, set the delay — 500 ms shows each picture for half a second — and click Create GIF. Images of different sizes are fitted onto the first image’s canvas.

Can I mix images, GIFs and videos?

Yes. Use + Add files to append more images, the frames of another GIF, or the first five seconds of a video at 10 fps.

Can each frame have its own timing?

Yes — select frames on the timeline and type a delay for just those, or set every frame at once in the Edit tab.

Can I add text or a caption?

Yes — open the Text tab: meme text (top and bottom), any number of captions with font, size, colour, outline and shadow, dragged into place on the preview and shown on all frames or only some.

How do I make the GIF smaller?

Use a smaller width (320–480 px is plenty for chats), a lower frame rate (10–12 fps), fewer colours (64–128) and some lossy compression — or type a size under “Fit under a file size” and the settings are found for you. Shorter clips make the biggest difference.

Can I save as MP4, WebM, WebP or APNG instead?

Yes. The Export tab makes GIF, MP4 (H.264), WebM, animated WebP and APNG from the same edit — MP4 and WebP are usually many times smaller than a GIF.

Are my photos and clips uploaded?

No. The GIF is put together and encoded in your browser, so your photos and clips never leave your device.
