Frequently asked questions

Is an electronic signature legally valid?

Yes, for most everyday documents — contracts, offer letters, NDAs, forms and invoices. Simple electronic signatures are recognised in the EU (eIDAS), the US (ESIGN Act and UETA), the UK, India (IT Act 2000) and many other countries. Some documents, such as wills, property deeds or certain government filings, need a certificate-based digital signature instead.

What is the signature certificate?

An extra last page — an audit trail — that records the signer’s name and email, the reason, the date and time with time zone, the number of signatures and the SHA-256 fingerprints of the original file and of the signed pages. The signer details are also stored in the PDF properties.

How can someone check the document later?

Open Verify a signed PDF, choose the signed PDF and, optionally, the original file. The certificate is read and the original’s fingerprint is compared with the one recorded at signing — any change to the file shows up.

Can I sign a photo or scanned document?

Yes. Choose “sign a photo or scan”: JPG, PNG and other images are turned into a PDF, one page per image, and you sign it like any PDF.

How do I make a signature for Word or Gmail?

Open Create my signature, draw it, type your name in a handwriting font or upload a photo of your signature on paper (the paper is removed), then download a transparent PNG or SVG, or copy it and paste it into Word, Google Docs or your email signature.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. Signing, the certificate, the fingerprints and verification all happen in your browser; documents and signatures stay on your device.
