Live local time for major cities in every region — updates every second.

About the World Clock

The World Clock shows the current local time in cities across every continent on a live, interactive map of the world. Each city is a dot placed on a real vector map with accurate country boundaries. Hover or tap a dot to see that city's exact local time in 12-hour format, along with whether it's currently daytime, evening or night there.

A moving day/night terminator shades the half of the planet where the sun has already set, so you can see at a glance where it's light and where it's dark right now. Below the map, a full-width table lists the live time for every city and updates every second.

You can search around 140 major cities and add any of them to your map, remove the ones you don't need, and reset to the defaults at any time. Your selection is saved in your browser, and if you're signed in it syncs to your account so it follows you across devices. Everything runs entirely in your browser using your device's clock and the standard IANA time-zone database — no location or data is uploaded, and daylight-saving changes are handled automatically.

How to use the world clock

  1. Hover or tap any dot on the map to see that city's live local time and whether it's day, evening or night.
  2. Search a city in the box above the map and click it to add its dot and a table row.
  3. Remove cities you don't need with the × on each table row, then Reset any time to restore the defaults.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the time?

Times are calculated from your device clock and the standard IANA time-zone database, so they are as accurate as your computer or phone clock. For the best accuracy, keep your device set to update its time automatically over the internet.

Does it handle daylight saving time (DST)?

Yes, automatically. Each city uses the official IANA time-zone rules, so daylight-saving changes and historical offsets are applied for you — you never have to adjust anything.

What do the dot colours and the shaded area mean?

Each city dot is coloured by its local time: yellow for daytime, orange for evening and blue for night. The darker, shaded half of the map is the day/night terminator — the part of the world where the sun is currently below the horizon — and it moves in real time as the Earth rotates.

Can I add my own cities?

Yes. Use the search box above the map to look up any of around 140 major cities by name or country, then click it to drop a dot on the map and add a row to the table.

Can I remove cities or reset the map?

Yes. Click the × on any row in the table to remove that city, so only the places you care about stay on the map. Click Reset at any time to return to the default set of cities.

Will my chosen cities be saved?

Yes. Your selection is saved in your browser, so it is still there next time you visit. If you sign in, it also syncs to your account and follows you across devices.

Is my data or location uploaded?

Your location is never requested — times come from your device clock. Your city list is kept in your browser and, if you sign in, saved to your account so it follows you.

Why is the time shown in 12-hour format?

All times are shown in 12-hour AM/PM format, both in the hover tooltip on the map and in the table below, so they are easy to read at a glance.
