About Freehand Crop

Sometimes a rectangle won’t do. Draw around exactly what you want — a person, an object, part of a document — freehand, or click points for clean straight edges, and everything outside the shape becomes transparent.

Soften the edge so it blends in, crop the picture down to the shape or keep its full size, remove the shape instead of keeping it, and fill the background with a colour if you like. It all happens in your browser.

Good for

  • Cutting a person or object out of a photo
  • Making stickers and collages
  • Hiding or removing an irregular part of a picture

Tip: Zoom the page in on a phone or tablet and draw slowly with a finger or stylus for the most precise outline.

Frequently asked questions

How do I draw the shape?

With Freehand, hold the mouse button (or your finger) and draw around the part to keep. With Points, click each corner and click the first point again — or double-click — to close the shape.

Can I remove a part instead of keeping it?

Yes. Choose “Everything except the shape” to cut the shape out of the picture.

What is a soft edge?

It feathers the border of the shape over a few pixels so the cut-out blends smoothly instead of looking jagged.

Is the background transparent?

Yes, as PNG or WebP. You can also fill it with white, black or any colour.

Do my pictures leave my device?

No. The cut-out is made in your browser, so your pictures stay with you.

How do I get a cleaner outline?

Click points along straight edges and draw only the curved parts freehand. A small soft edge also hides tiny wobbles in the line.
