How to pick a colour from an image

  1. Select, drop or paste a picture (or use the colour wheel or “Pick from screen” without one).
  2. Move over the picture to see the magnified pixels and click to pick; choose 1 px or an average of 3×3 to 11×11.
  3. Copy the HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV or CMYK code, or download all picked colours.

About Color Picker

Find the exact colour of any pixel. Add a picture, move over it with the magnifier and click — the colour’s HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV and CMYK codes are ready to copy, along with the nearest CSS colour name and how readable white or black text would be on it.

Average a small area for a truer colour on photos, pick colours from anywhere on your screen in Chromium browsers, and explore tints, shades and matching colour harmonies. Your picked colours are kept in a history you can download. The picture stays on your device.

Good for

  • Getting the exact brand colour from a logo or screenshot
  • Matching paint, clothing or decor colours from a photo
  • Finding accessible text colours for a background

Tip: On photos use the 5×5 sample — a single pixel is often a little lighter or darker than the colour you see.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pick a colour from my screen?

Yes, in Chrome, Edge and Opera: click “Pick from screen” and click anywhere — even outside the browser.

What does the sample size do?

1 px takes the exact pixel. 3×3 to 11×11 average the pixels around it, which gives a truer colour on photos and noisy or compressed pictures.

Which colour codes are shown?

HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV and CMYK, the nearest CSS colour name and the contrast ratio with white and black text.

Are picked colours saved?

The last 40 colours are kept in this browser so you can come back to them. Download them as a list, CSS variables or JSON.

Does my picture leave my device?

No. Colours are picked in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
