How to change the DPI of an image

  2. Pick the new DPI. Choose “Change the DPI only” to keep the pixels, or resample to a print size in cm, mm or inches.
  3. Click Change DPI and download.

About DPI Converter

Set the DPI that printers, publishers and application forms ask for. The quickest way changes only the DPI number stored in the file — every pixel stays the same, so there is no quality loss at all; the picture just prints at a different size.

When you need an exact printed size, resample instead: enter the width (and height) in cm, mm or inches and the picture gets exactly the pixels it needs at the new DPI. Works on many pictures at once.

Good for

  • Setting 300 DPI for print shops and publishers
  • Meeting DPI rules on application forms
  • Preparing pictures for an exact printed size

Tip: Most printers only need the DPI number changed — choose “Change the DPI only” to keep full quality.

Frequently asked questions

Does changing DPI reduce quality?

Not with “Change the DPI only”: for JPG and PNG only the number in the file header changes and the pixels stay exactly the same. The picture simply prints at a different size.

How do I make a picture 300 DPI?

Choose 300 and “Change the DPI only”. If you need a specific printed size too, choose “Resample to a print size” and enter it.

What does resampling do?

It changes the number of pixels so the picture is exactly the size you enter at the new DPI — for example 10 × 15 cm at 300 DPI becomes 1181 × 1772 pixels.

Which formats keep their exact pixels?

JPG and PNG. Other formats are saved again at high quality with the new DPI.

Do my pictures leave my device?

No. The DPI is changed in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
