About Tweet Character Counter

Count characters exactly the way X (Twitter) does.

Everything works in your browser, so it is instant and private, and your settings are remembered on this device.

Good for

  • Writing posts that fit first time
  • Planning threads and long captions
  • Checking SMS length and cost

Tip: Use “Keep blank lines (Instagram)” so your line breaks survive on Instagram.

Frequently asked questions

How does X count characters?

Most letters count 1, but emoji, Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters count 2, and every link counts as 23 no matter how long it is. The free limit is 280; Premium allows 25,000.

What are the limits on other platforms?

Threads 500, Bluesky 300, Mastodon 500, Instagram captions 2,200 (bios 150), TikTok 4,000, LinkedIn posts 3,000, YouTube titles 100 and descriptions 5,000, Pinterest 500 — all shown live.

Can it split a long post into a thread?

Yes — when your text is over the limit, it is split at word and sentence boundaries into numbered posts (1/5, 2/5 …) that each fit, ready to copy.

Where does Instagram cut off with “more”?

After about 125 characters on Instagram, 210 on LinkedIn and 477 on Facebook. The preview shows exactly what people see before tapping “more”.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Counting happens in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
