Encrypt / Decrypt Text

Lock a message or file with a password so only someone who knows it can read it.

How to encrypt text with a password

  1. Type the text and a strong password.
  2. Choose Encrypt or Decrypt (or let it detect) and press Run.
  3. Copy the result — or encrypt and decrypt whole files.

About Encrypt / Decrypt Text

Encrypt text and files with a password using AES-256-GCM.

It works in your browser for speed and privacy, remembers your settings on this device, and every result can be copied, downloaded or shared.

Good for

  • Sending secrets by email or chat
  • Storing notes and keys safely
  • Exchanging data with OpenSSL scripts

Tip: Share the password through a different channel than the encrypted text.

Frequently asked questions

How secure is it?

It uses AES-256-GCM, with the key derived from your password by PBKDF2-SHA256 with 600,000 rounds and a random salt — the same building blocks banks and password managers use. Security then depends on a strong password.

Can I decrypt it with OpenSSL?

Choose “OpenSSL compatible” and decrypt with: openssl enc -d -aes-256-cbc -pbkdf2 -a. Text encrypted by OpenSSL or CryptoJS.AES can be decrypted here too.

Can I encrypt files?

Yes — any file is encrypted in your browser and saved as .enc; decrypt it here with the same password to get the original name and content back.

What if I forget the password?

The data cannot be recovered — there is no back door. Keep the password in a password manager.

Is it private?

Yes. Everything is generated or calculated in your browser with the Web Crypto API — nothing you type is uploaded, logged or put in share links.
